Sleeps Sundays//You Are Invited

King of Hearts (Richard X Remix Edit) by Cassie

Holy hell. The remix is gorgeous, swooshy dance pop and here it’s synched with the original (really rather sexy) video.

Mark Hoppus is the best one of those ones in the band he’s in. This made me happy.

This 30-second video of Nicki Minaj explaining what “beez in the trap” means is the most important and wonderful thing I’ve seen today.

This is your Don’t Ask Questions, Just Watch It of the day.

I went “Aw” and “Oh” and this is just absolutely lovely and was probably hell to make. Just watch it.

The Weeknd - The Birds (Part 1)

DOWNLOAD

Did we talk about this yet? Easily the best non-House-of-Balloons Weeknd cut we’ve heard so far (I didn’t not like “Rolling Stone” at all, but this has got me back to being super excited about “Thursday”)

Over/Under - Pitchfork

One of my favourite videos on the internet. Highlights:  ”How much is too much, man?” “Soy beans are sick… if you’re East Asian. White people? Lay off the soy beans”, “I do like looking at pictures of her face”.

And they make fantastic records, obviously.

The Mountain Goats: Boxcar

Watch this if you want me explained.

WOW.

The Mountain Goats covering a Jawbreaker song I’m unfamiliar with. This is a damn good time. I love watching Jon Wurster drum.

The National - Secret Meeting

Probably still my all-time favourite song by The National, and the last 30-45 seconds sum up how I feel right now. Brain = mess.

Didn’t anybody tell you how to gracefully disappear in a room?

You know what makes Secret Meeting particularly potent, phonomancers?

If you’re lost and fried you can run with “It’s over now, I’m sorry I missed you, I had a secret meeting in the basement of my brain, it went the dull and wicked ordinary way” because we all sometimes get lost in the dark parts of our heads -

But if you’re on a good mixture and don’t want to waste it, if you’re lit up and feel like you’re ready to take on the world, or at least the boardroom, then - “I’M TALKIN’ ACE THIS MORNING! I’M TALKIN’ ACE THIS MORNING!”.

A lot of The National songs are interesting to think about in terms of switching versions of yourself on and off. One could even argue for the lead vocal vs. backing vocals here as something like interior-fear vs. exterior-projected-confidence.

Or you could just enjoy that bubbling piano and sunrise guitars and the take-anything-in-it’s-stride drumbeat.

The National are a good band and I am going to bed now.

Well, I do anyway.

All-time favourite man performing all-time favourite song.

Yoni Wolf doing a solo keyboard take on “The Vowels Pt. 2”. It’s pretty fantastic. That song has one of the all time great opening lines. (Edit: Ooh, and then some of These Few Presidents too)
